Tips for Healthy Lawns in the Arizona Heat - Sprinklers

One of the best management practices for healthy lawns is to use a sprinkler system to control watering and water use.  The following tips are based on the assumption that you already have a properly installed and adjusted sprinkler system in use at your commercial location.

Sprinkler Tips
For an efficient system:
If you are experiencing water run off; Irrigate more often for shorter periods of time.

Replace broken and missing sprinklers as soon as they are discovered.

Water conservation
Adjust sprinkler heads so they don’t spray walls, driveways or sidewalks.

To avoid wasting water; shaded areas should be watered about 30% less than sunny areas.

If it has rained, reduce irrigations accordingly. The best way to balance water use is with a system that monitors ground moisture as part of the programming.

Note: A typical lawn sprinkler system uses about 10 – 18 gallons per minute per valve or zone. If a lawn has twenty zones and waters for 15 minutes three times per week, the water consumption would range between 45,000 and 75,000 gallons per month.

And remember: We live in a Desert, Always Use Water Wisely!
