Greens Keeper Commercial Property Landscaping

Let Greens Keeper help you maintain your curb appeal at all times.

It's no surprise when people drive by your commercial property they make assumptions to the quality of your company, simply based on how your landscaping looks.

Too often, people judge a book by its cover… meaning, if your plants are over-grown, you have weeds in the sidewalks and flower beds, and your grass is overgrown and looks terrible, people will have a negative preconception about your company.  First impressions are everything!

Greens Keeper is a service oriented family owned business specializing in commercial landscape maintenance.

While our normal hours of operations are from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM we offer 24/7 service and Storm Damage Clean-up as needed by our customers.

We keep our overhead low and pass the savings on to our customers. We provide high quality service and pride ourselves on our open communication practices.

Our hourly rate is $26 per hour. Our special project rate, including sprinkler repairs, is $30. We offer convenient payment terms of 2/10 net 30.

All of our vehicles are clearly marked and all of our employees are in uniform for easy identification. Many of the small unexpected things that other companies charge for, we include.

If there are minor sprinkler repairs that are needed, most of them are also included (no charge). We accomplish this by providing an allowance for sprinkler heads, drip emitters, shrub heads, and repairs to lateral lines and drip lines. The only sprinkler issues that we would have to charge for would be main line repairs, valves & timers. And we always get these pre approved by our customers.

We will strive to keep your landscape safe, clean and beautiful. At the same time keeping your costs as low as possible.

We meet or exceed the highest insurance standards, with $2,000,000 business liability, $1,000,000 commercial auto, and $1,000,000 workman's comp. And we can list you (the customer) as additional insured at no extra charge.

Holiday Commercial Landscape Lighting

Today we want to cover the use of a typical popular southwestern holiday lighting item, Luminarias.

Christmas in the southwest is a beautiful time. As many areas have mild evening temperatures, outdoor celebrations have become holiday traditions. Lighting the way to a festive time in the southwest are luminarias or farolitos. Simply put, these are candles carefully placed in sand inside a bag, providing a warm glow at night.

The warm flickering light is so inviting and a holiday tradition here in Arizona.  A typical luminaries is done as a candle in a brown paper bag.  While that works in many cases it is not always the best way to do it for a commercial property.

The exposed flame creates a safety hazard in several ways.  A small child could reach out and touch the open flame.  A gust of wind can push the wall of the paper bag into the candle and set the paper bag on fire.

The votive candle that is the light source is quickly consumed and lasts but one evening.  If you have many luminaries lighting the walk ways it is not very cost effective.

Consider electrified luminaries.

What began as a Spanish tradition involving holiday lighting has now become even safer and easier with the addition of electric luminaria or luminaries. Luminaries are a decorating tradition, and now are available in an electrified version for holiday decor.

Electric Christmas Luminaries are gaining popularity and can be used to represent the traditional guiding lights of welcome during the holiday season

Electric luminaries can be used indoors or along a walk or driveway. They are perfect for Christmas decorating to welcome your guests and tenants. Instead of trying to line up the traditional luminaria bag along your walkway, it is easy to lay a 15 or 30 foot length of connected translucent PVC sheaths with 4 watt C7 bulbs for a holographic-look that runs on electricity.

It doesn’t matter to us whether you want lush lawns, desert landscaping or some type of landscaping in between, we can help.  To find out how give us a call at 623-848-8277.

Winter Storm Damage Clean-up… Who Do You Call?

Even during our cold days of December Arizona can have a pretty good storm roll through the valley.  Rain and high winds cause property damage and can reduce trees and landscaping to rubble.

If you are looking for help in your clean up efforts give Greens Keeper a call at 623-848-8277

You want to get your property damage corrected as soon as possible.  This goes well beyond just the aesthetics of how the property looks.  You want to make sure your property is safe.  You want to make sure that debris doesn’t cause even more damage and flooding on and beyond your property.

We offer more than just the look of the landscape of properties.  We offer clean-up and haul-away services that can get the storm damage restoration underway as soon as possible.

Our crews will arrive on site and begin working to minimize your properties' damage.

We have more than fifteen years of experience in helping business owners recover from unexpected events, storm and water damage.

We will work directly for you or with your insurance company, you decide.

While removal of fallen trees is many times the most visible part of storm damage, there are others. Water run-off can be damaging as well.

Our process involves Immediate assessment of your property to identify hazardous areas and help minimize additional damage that the erosion or blockages can cause to landscaping. Controlling run-off and erosion can also be mandated by local regulations.

This means that if you have things we think could be a liability on your property related to the landscape, we will communicate with you.

Following our next valley storm think of Greens Keeper Landscape Maintenance for your repairs and property restoration.  Give us a call at 623-848-8277 to see how we can help you.

Citrus Frost Protection Tips

Several areas of the Valley of the Sun here in the Phoenix Metro Area got quite cold last night and there will be more cold weather to come.  There are many plants that need protection during our winter months.  So commercial landscapes use citrus trees as part of the their décor.  These investments need protection from the cold.

Most citrus fruit will not freeze unless temperatures drop into the mid 20's or lower for at least two hours. Lemon's, Limes and other thin-skinned fruit on the upper and outer periphery of trees may receive some injury at about 28 degrees.

Prevention:
Plant frost sensitive plants in the warmer microclimates of your yard, on the South or West sides, up next to a block wall which will capture and store heat energy from the sun.

Wrap the trunks of young citrus and other cold-tender trees to protect them from the frost. These wrapping may be left on during the frost season.

Cover the canopy of trees with a sheet or blanket (not plastic) that extends all the way to the ground. Apply covering by sunset to capture the radiant heat trapped during the day. Remove the covering every morning and reapply at night if frost is forecast.

Keep trees properly irrigated as drought stress makes them more vulnerable to frost damage.
If necessary hang an outdoor light just off the ground, well away from the trunk, under the blanket to provide additional heat.

Treatment:
Do not prune frost damage out until new growth has started in the Spring.

Pruning stimulates new growth and you do not want to encourage any vulnerable new growth until all danger of frost has passed.

The damage often appears much worse than it is. What appears to be dead may actually sprout new leaves in the Spring. By pruning before Spring you may cut away much more than is necessary.

The frost damaged material provides some frost protection to the rest of the plant by creating a "dead air space" which insulates the tree.

At Greens Keeper Landscape we want you to know how to take care of your property.  If you don’t want the headache of landscape maintenance we take care of your landscape for you.  To find out how we can help just give us a call at 623-848-8277.

Organic Fertilizers

The title organic fertilizer refers to materials used as fertilizer that occur regularly in nature, usually as a byproduct or end product of a naturally occurring process. Inorganic or synthetic fertilizers are produced artificially in a chemical refinery. Organic fertilizers such as manure have been used in agriculture for thousands of years; ancient farmers did not understand the chemistry involved, but they did recognize the benefit of providing their crops with organic material.  Only within the past 100 years have fertilizers containing essential micro and macronutrients been synthesized in the laboratory. Mass production of synthetic fertilizers has greatly increased crop yields and made the green industry more cost efficient. However, within the past 10-20 years negative effects of fertilizer runoff on the environment have been identified, and there is a renewed interest in organic fertilizers as an environmentally friendly alternative to artificially synthesized chemicals.

What, exactly, goes into an organic fertilizer? Like any fertilizer, organic fertilizers typically provide the three major macronutrients required by plants: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Some fertilizers may also incorporate materials that do not derive from a living organism, but are still accepted for use in organic fertilizers. Examples include limestone, rock phosphate, and Chilean saltpeter. Organic fertilizers on the market in the U.S. are certified through the National Organics Program, which restricts the use of the word ‘organic’ to certified producers. Certification is handled by state and local agencies approved by the USDA. Certification may guarantee that a fertilizer on the market does not have any synthetic chemical input, but does it guarantee a benefit to the environment?

Common Components of Organic Fertilizer

• Bone meal - slow release fertilizer high in phosphorus and calcium
• Bat guano - contains all three major macronutrients
• Poultry humus - waste products from the chicken industry contain all three macronutrients and are used locally in Arizona
• Fish emulsion - high in nitrogen, phosphorus, and trace elements
• Fish meal - traditionally used as fertilizer prior to advent of synthetic sources, provides high nitrogen and phosphorus
• Cotton seed meal - high in nitrogen
• Seaweed (kelp) meal - high in micronutrients

Organic fertilizers are more expensive to purchase than inorganic ones.

Or you can let Greens Keeper Landscape Maintenance do all the work for you and take the burden off your shoulders all together.  Give us a call at 623-848-8277 and let’s talk about it.
