Will The Patient Protection Act Affect Your Landscaping?

How would the Patient Protection Act in January 2014 possible affect commercial landscaping when it takes effect?

First, what is the Patient Protection Act?  Effective in 2014 every American will be required to carry health insurance. Failure to carry health insurance will trigger a fine imposed by the IRS. If an employer has 50 or more full time equivalent employees, they will be required to offer a group plan with Minimum Essential Benefits to all full time employees or pay a fine.

The policies will cover more benefits than many policies available today. For example; all policies will cover maternity, pediatric dental, and will have no pre-existing condition riders or conditions. There will be improved mental health benefits. Preventive Care will be provided at no cost to the insured. All policies will be unlimited in the amount of coverage.  While these coverages have many benefits they will come will a much higher cost.

Does this affect your business?

If you add in the numbers of employees that you have on staff and part of them are used for your landscaping needs then being more than 50 employees, you will have a new expense.  If you don’t have those landscaping employees on staff you may not have to provide the insurance or face the stiff ongoing fines.

If you are currently using a landscaping company you may find that there will be an increase in your rate for there service as they have to add the insurance cost into your fees.  If they try to operate outside the regulations they just may not show up one day and leave you scrambling to find a new source for your commercial landscaping.

At Greens Keeper Landscape Maintenance we are already operating and operating by offering insurance coverage for our employees.  We are already doing business with that built into our operating costs.  So we won’t have a surprises next year.  We will be there for you.  We will be operating the same as we are now, covered!
